POLE BARN SUNSET CONCERT:
Enjoy Multi-Grammy Award-winning composer and cellist, Eugene Friesen, with Max O'Rourke, the WoodFest Symphonia, and the Flint Hills Counterpoint Community Choir under the direction of Greg Zielke of Tabor College. The performance will feature “best of” excerpts from Friesen’s symphonies composed for Kansas and performed previously in full-length versions for PrairieFest (Cowley County), Smoky Hill River Festival (Salina), and the 2006 Symphony in the Flint Hills (Chase County).
Grasslands: Prairie Voices is an exuberant Symphony that premiered in 1997 and features grasslands throughout the world, including Friesen’s notable “Cellophant” and a self-narrated essay by Wes Jackson, founder of The Land Institute and MacArthur Fellow.
Carl Sandburg’s ‘Prairie’ is full of prairie characters and tells the story of the settling and growth of civilization on the American prairie. It is based on the 1918 poem Prairie by American Poet Laureate, Carl Sandburg and inspired by his personal collection of folk music and folklore.
